Methode Electronics Stock Tumbles as In-Line Guidance Disappoints Investors

Methode Electronics (NYSE: MEI) shares plummeted in pre-market trading after the manufacturer's full-year revenue guidance failed to deliver the upside surprise investors had anticipated following a recent rally in the stock.
Guidance Overshadows Quarterly Beat
According to its first-quarter fiscal 2027 report, Methode delivered results that, on the surface, appeared strong. The company posted an adjusted loss of $0.22 per share, narrower than the $0.24 loss analysts had forecast. Revenue for the quarter surged 10.4% year-over-year to $265.4 million, significantly ahead of the consensus estimate of $231.57 million.
However, the company's forecast for the full fiscal year 2027 proved to be the sticking point for the market. Methode guided for full-year revenue in a range of $1.025 billion to $1.075 billion. The midpoint of this range, $1.05 billion, landed squarely in line with analyst expectations, offering no positive revision to justify the stock's recent gains.
Underlying Financials Add to Concerns
AdThe in-line guidance was compounded by other details in the earnings report that signaled potential weakness. Investors noted a widening of the company's quarterly net loss to $11.4 million, compared to $10.3 million in the same period a year prior.
Other key financial metrics also raised concerns:
- Free cash flow turned negative, registering at -$10.9 million.
- Adjusted EBITDA of $13.7 million came in slightly below estimates.
This combination of factors prompted investors to recalibrate their expectations, leading to a significant sell-off. The stock fell 17.0% in pre-open trading, a move that was specific to the company's results as the broader S&P 500 was trading near flat.
