Meta Upgrades AI Assistant with Autonomous Task Automation Features

Meta Platforms (META) announced on Friday it is deploying new features for its Meta AI service that allow the assistant to complete certain tasks autonomously for users in select markets.
The update aims to enhance the AI's ability to understand user context and execute multi-step tasks without requiring constant prompting, positioning it as a more proactive digital assistant.
New Capabilities and Rollout
The upgraded Meta AI is powered by the company’s new Muse Spark 1.1 model. According to the announcement, the new features will enable the assistant to perform a range of automated functions, including:
- Delivering daily briefings by summarizing calendar events.
- Setting up recurring tasks, such as creating weekly meal plans.
- Providing regular updates on specific trends.
AdIn a company blog post, Meta described the initiative as its "next step toward personal superintelligence: an AI that knows your context, is there for you whenever you need it." The company confirmed that users will retain control over their interactions and that private conversations can be conducted via incognito chats.
Market Context and Upcoming Earnings
The initial rollout of these capabilities is limited to select markets through the Meta AI app and the meta.ai website. Meta stated it plans to expand the features to more regions and integrate them into its other platforms, including WhatsApp, in the future.
The announcement comes just days before Meta is scheduled to report its second-quarter financial results, which are expected after the market closes on July 29. Separately, the company also launched a new "Seller" app on Friday to provide dedicated tools for merchants on its Facebook Marketplace platform.
