Måsøval Stock Surges 14% on SalMar Takeover Deal

Shares of Måsøval AS surged more than 14% on Tuesday after fellow Norwegian aquaculture firm SalMar ASA announced a deal to acquire a majority stake at a significant premium. The stock climbed to NOK 37.8, approaching the acquisition price and setting a new 52-week high.
The Acquisition Details
SalMar disclosed on July 8 that it had reached an agreement to purchase the approximate 70% stake in Måsøval held by Heimstø AS, the founding family's investment company. The deal values Måsøval shares at NOK 39.50 each, implying a total consideration of approximately NOK 3.4 billion for the stake.
Following the completion of the transaction, SalMar has committed to making a mandatory offer for the remaining shares in Måsøval. This ensures minority shareholders will have the opportunity to sell their positions at the same NOK 39.50 per-share price.
Market Reaction and Context
The market reacted swiftly to the news, sending Måsøval shares to a new 52-week high of NOK 38.4 at the market open. The offer price represents a substantial premium over recent trading levels and analyst valuations. Notably, Pareto Securities had downgraded the stock to 'Hold' with a price target of NOK 35 on June 30, a target the acquisition price meaningfully exceeds.
AdThe deal also concludes a strategic review process initiated by Heimstø AS in late March 2026. This resolution removes a period of ownership uncertainty that had been weighing on the stock, contributing to the strong investor response.
Strategic Rationale
The acquisition comes just days after Måsøval raised its full-year 2026 harvest guidance from 28,000 to 29,000 tonnes, citing strong production and fish health in the second quarter. This positive operational update likely enhanced the company's appeal as an acquisition target.
SalMar CEO Frode Arntsen described the transaction as "an exciting industrial opportunity" that will strengthen SalMar’s operational footprint in Central Norway, a key region for global aquaculture. The move consolidates SalMar's position as a leading player in the salmon farming industry.
