Background

Liquid Mercury announced it has successfully registered the white paper for its MERC token with European authorities, a critical step that satisfies disclosure requirements under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation and enables the token's admission to trading on regulated venues across the bloc.

MiCA Compliance Achieved

The Chicago-based digital asset firm confirmed on Wednesday that its crypto-asset white paper was submitted to the Central Bank of Ireland and has been officially added to the European Securities and Markets Authority's (ESMA) public register. This action fulfills a core mandate of the MiCA framework, which requires a published and registered white paper before a crypto-asset can be offered to the public or admitted to a trading platform in the European Union.

By being listed on the ESMA register, MERC now meets the necessary transparency and disclosure standards set by the landmark European regulation. This framework is designed to harmonize rules for crypto-assets, enhance investor protection, and ensure market integrity across its member states.

Implications for EU Market Access

This regulatory milestone provides the necessary foundation for the MERC token to be listed on trading platforms throughout the EU and the wider European Economic Area (EEA). It removes a significant barrier to entry, potentially increasing the token's liquidity and accessibility for European investors.

"With the white paper in the ESMA register, MERC has the regulatory grounding we need to keep pursuing listings, deeper liquidity, and broader access across the EU and beyond,” said Tony Saliba, CEO and founder of Liquid Mercury, in a statement. The MERC token is integral to Liquid Mercury's platform, which provides institutional-grade trading infrastructure and is expanding into tokenized real-world assets (RWAs).
