Background

LG Electronics Inc. (KS:066570) shares rallied sharply on Tuesday after the company announced its high-capacity liquid cooling system for artificial intelligence hardware was qualified for use by chipmaker Nvidia, a key validation for its data center infrastructure business.

The South Korean company's stock jumped 6.2% to close at 215,000 won in Seoul, significantly outperforming the benchmark KOSPI index's 1.2% gain for the day.

A Key Validation for AI Infrastructure

The catalyst for the stock's move was LG's announcement that its 2.6-megawatt (MW) coolant distribution unit (CDU) now meets the reference-design requirements for Nvidia's DSX AI Factory platform. This qualification means the unit is now listed on the NVIDIA DSX AI Factory Marketplace, giving it a crucial stamp of approval for data center operators building out AI capacity.

The unit is part of a direct-to-chip liquid-cooling system designed to manage the intense heat generated by large clusters of AI servers. Nvidia has categorized the 2.6MW system as a "Large-Scale" solution, reflecting its capacity to serve multiple high-density server racks.

Tapping a High-Growth Market

This development positions LG to capitalize on a critical trend in the technology sector. As AI accelerators become more powerful, their energy consumption and heat output are rising dramatically, pushing the power density of server racks to hundreds of kilowatts.

This shift is fueling demand for centralized, megawatt-class liquid-cooling systems over traditional air cooling. The qualification expands LG's lineup of Nvidia-validated equipment, which already includes 600-kilowatt and 1MW CDUs. The company is pursuing a broad "Chip-to-Chiller" strategy, offering a portfolio that covers the entire cooling chain from the processor to the facility's heat rejection systems.
