Lexicon Pharma Shares Jump Over 13% on Bullish Cantor Fitzgerald Initiation

Summary
Lexicon Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:LXRX) stock surged after Cantor Fitzgerald initiated coverage with an Overweight rating and an $8.00 price target, citing the strong potential of its cardiovascular drug sotagliflozin in a late-stage trial for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Shares of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:LXRX) rallied more than 13% in Monday trading after Wall Street research firm Cantor Fitzgerald initiated coverage with a bullish outlook on the biopharmaceutical company's pipeline.
Cantor Fitzgerald's Bullish Thesis
Cantor Fitzgerald assigned an Overweight rating to Lexicon and set an $8.00 price target, citing significant upside potential for sotagliflozin, the company's dual SGLT1/2 inhibitor. The firm's positive thesis is centered on the drug's evaluation in a pivotal late-stage trial for a new cardiovascular indication.
The drug, which is already approved for heart failure under the brand name Inpefa, is being studied in the Phase 3 SONATA-HCM trial for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). According to the analyst note, the trial is now fully enrolled, with a critical data readout expected in the first quarter of 2027.
AdA Complementary Market Position
Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Steve Seedhouse highlighted that sotagliflozin operates through a mechanism of action that is completely different from cardiac myosin inhibitors (CMIs), which are the current focus of innovation in HCM treatment. This distinction is key to the investment thesis.
Because the SONATA-HCM trial protocol permits patients to receive background CMI therapy, sotagliflozin is positioned to be a complementary treatment rather than a direct competitor. Should the trial succeed, Cantor Fitzgerald believes the drug will enter the multibillion-dollar HCM market "essentially unencumbered" from a competitive standpoint. The firm's price target anticipates the market will increasingly factor in the drug's probability of success as the data readout approaches.
