Labcorp Shares Tumble as Investor Day Guidance Fails to Spark Enthusiasm

Shares of Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (NYSE: LH) fell sharply in Thursday trading after the company’s 2026 Investor Day presentation reaffirmed financial guidance but failed to provide the upside surprise that investors had anticipated.
The stock was last trading down 4.3% at $307.43, a significant drop from its opening price of $320.32 and well off its 52-week high of $341.80, which it had approached prior to the event.
Guidance Fails to Impress
During the presentation, Labcorp leadership maintained its full-year 2026 outlook and laid out its long-term financial targets. The lack of a guidance increase appeared to disappoint a market that had priced in a more optimistic scenario.
Key financial targets reaffirmed or announced include:
Ad- 2026 Revenue: A range of $14.71 billion to $14.83 billion, implying growth of 5.4% to 6.3% over 2025.
- 2026 Adjusted EPS: A range of $18.10 to $18.55.
- Long-Term Growth (through 2029): Compound annual revenue growth of 5% to 8% and adjusted EPS growth of 8.5% to 11.5%.
Market Reaction and Context
The stock's decline reflects a classic "sell the news" event. With shares having rallied in anticipation of the investor day, the in-line guidance provided a catalyst for investors to take profits. According to Investing.com, the consensus analyst price target of around $330 suggested much of the positive outlook was already reflected in the stock's valuation.
The sell-off was exacerbated by a broader downturn in U.S. equities. The S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and Nasdaq Composite were all down more than 0.5%, creating a risk-off environment that added to the selling pressure on individual stocks like Labcorp.
