L3Harris Signs 7-Year Deal with Lockheed Martin to Triple Patriot Missile Component Output

Summary
L3Harris Technologies secured a long-term agreement with Lockheed Martin to nearly triple its production of key propulsion components for the PAC-3 missile. The deal highlights the defense industry's ramp-up to replenish U.S. and allied Patriot system stockpiles.
L3Harris Technologies has secured a seven-year framework agreement with Lockheed Martin to significantly increase production of critical propulsion components for the PAC-3 missile, a key interceptor for the Patriot air defense system. The deal reflects accelerating efforts by the U.S. and its allies to replenish and expand missile stockpiles amid rising global demand.
Production Ramp-Up for Key Components
The agreement focuses on essential elements for the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor, including its two-pulse solid rocket motors, Attitude Control Motors, and Lethality Enhancers. L3Harris announced its intention to nearly triple its production capacity to meet the terms of the contract.
To support this expansion, the company is investing in its manufacturing footprint, adding nearly 1 million square feet of new space across facilities in Alabama, Virginia, and Arkansas. For Lockheed Martin, the interceptor's manufacturer, the deal helps alleviate a critical supply chain bottleneck, potentially enabling higher overall missile output.
Broader Sector Impact
The move benefits the entire Patriot missile supply chain, led by prime contractor RTX Corp. RTX, which is responsible for the system's radar, launchers, and fire control, has seen its valuation climb as NATO allies work to backfill inventories depleted by aid to Ukraine.
AdOther defense contractors are also experiencing growth from increased U.S. defense procurement budgets. Kratos Defense, while not a direct Patriot supplier, recently reported a backlog exceeding $2 billion and a strong first-quarter book-to-bill ratio of 1.6x, indicating broad demand for air defense and other advanced systems.
Market Reaction
Defense stocks have rallied amid the heightened demand, with shares of RTX climbing 3.5% in a single session and more than 13% over the past week. L3Harris and Kratos also posted gains of 1.4% and 3.7%, respectively.
Investors are also weighing geopolitical factors, as any diplomatic de-escalation could temper sentiment in the sector. The recent stock appreciation reflects that much of the anticipated increase in defense spending may already be priced into the market, with RTX recently touching a 52-week high.
