The deal underscores growing government demand for sophisticated systems to counter threats from unmanned aircraft.
Contract Details
Kratos secured a sole-source, single award Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract valued at approximately $156 million. The contract was awarded by the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Office of Secure Transportation (OST), which is responsible for the safe ground and air transport of nuclear weapons, components, and special materials.
Under the program, designated Project Solar Shield, Kratos will deliver mobile Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) platforms. According to the announcement, these systems are designed to provide a dynamic defense capability that can:
- Detect, track, and identify potentially hostile unmanned aircraft systems in real time.
- Respond to identified threats to support mission requirements wherever OST operates.
AdStrategic Significance
The company stated it was selected following a technical evaluation of its ability to meet the agency's requirements for cost, schedule, safety, and long-term sustainment. Kratos's solution integrates C-UAS systems, mobile platform design, command-and-control, and advanced power management technologies.
Dave Carter, President of Kratos’ Defense & Rocket Support Services Division, described Project Solar Shield as "the first large scale government production contract of its kind built around this integrated approach." The award validates the company's strategy of combining multiple advanced technologies into a single, mission-ready solution. Work is set to begin immediately at secure Kratos facilities.
