Kongsberg Gruppen Stock Falls on Weak Earnings Outlook, Analyst Downgrade

Shares of Kongsberg Gruppen (Osl: KOG) slid nearly 6.0% on Monday after the Norwegian defense and technology company released its second-quarter 2026 financial results, which landed amid pre-existing concerns over a significant year-over-year slowdown.
A Challenging Earnings Backdrop
The market reaction was amplified by an already challenging setup. According to Investing.com, consensus analyst estimates heading into the report had braced investors for a notable deterioration compared to the prior year.
- Earnings Per Share (EPS): Expected at approximately 1.61 NOK, down from 1.85 NOK in the same quarter a year ago.
- Revenue: Forecast to contract by roughly 26.8% to around 10.06 billion NOK.
This weak forecast left little room for disappointment and heightened sensitivity to the company's performance, contributing to the sharp sell-off in its shares.
AdBroader Headwinds Weigh on Sentiment
A recent analyst action and wider sector weakness added to the pressure on Kongsberg's stock. Just six days before the earnings release, Morgan Stanley downgraded the stock to Underweight from Equal Weight, a move that introduced fresh bearish sentiment and lowered institutional confidence.
Furthermore, the report comes during a difficult period for European industrial and defense stocks. The German DAX had closed the prior week down approximately 2.8%, and defense peers like Rheinmetall have also faced headwinds. This suggests potential sector-wide fatigue after a prolonged rally tied to increased NATO-related defense spending. These combined factors pushed Kongsberg shares to €25.81, significantly below their 52-week high of €39.20.
