Kier Group Shares Rally on Upbeat Profit Guidance and Order Book Growth

Summary
The UK infrastructure company's stock jumped after it announced full-year results would meet the top end of forecasts and reported an 8% increase in its order book to £11.9 billion.
Shares in Kier Group (LSE: KIE) surged on Monday after the UK construction and infrastructure firm issued an upbeat trading statement, signaling that its full-year performance is on track to hit the upper range of market expectations.
The stock climbed as much as 4.1% to 231.98 pence, standing out in a weaker market where the broader FTSE 100 index was down approximately 0.5% amid geopolitical concerns and political developments in the UK.
Strong Full-Year Performance
In a scheduled update for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, Kier confirmed that both revenue and profit are expected to be at the top end of analyst forecasts. The company attributed the strong results to continued momentum in the second half of the year.
Performance was driven by its infrastructure division, particularly from water, highways, and rail projects. The construction unit also benefited from work on major projects, including HMP Glasgow. The company's ongoing share buyback programme, which has now repurchased 4.7 million ordinary shares, continues to provide additional support to the stock.
Order Book Swells
AdKier reported a significant 8% increase in its order book, which now stands at £11.9 billion. This growth was bolstered by recent contract wins in the nuclear and water sectors, enhancing the company's long-term revenue prospects.
"We have seen a notable increase in our order book, which continues to provide excellent revenue visibility, comprising substantial high quality opportunities across critical UK infrastructure," said CEO Stuart Togwell in the update. The full annual results are scheduled for release on September 15, 2026.
Analyst View and Market Context
Following the update, broker Panmure Liberum reiterated its 'Buy' recommendation on the stock. The firm noted that Kier's shares, trading at approximately 9.3 times forward earnings, are valued at a material discount to its peers.
The broker argued that the current valuation does not fully reflect Kier's "transformed balance sheet and growth potential." Kier's positive company-specific news provided a distinct catalyst for investors against a cautious macroeconomic backdrop, which saw the UK 10-year Gilt yield rise to 5.03%.
