The downturn was reportedly driven by losses across several key industries. The Banking, Auto, and Oil & Gas sectors were cited as the primary drivers leading the market's shares lower.

Among the Nifty 50's worst-performing stocks were Jio Financial Services Ltd, which fell 5.02%, and Shriram Finance Ltd., which declined 4.87%. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. also saw a significant drop of 3.89%. On the other hand, a few stocks bucked the trend, with Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) rising 1.15%.

On the BSE Sensex 30, the worst performers included Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., which was down 3.83%, Hindustan Unilever Ltd., which lost 3.32%, and Bajaj Finance Ltd, which dropped 3.08%.

The negative market sentiment was widespread. On the India National Stock Exchange, 2,040 stocks fell while only 513 advanced. Similarly, on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2,954 stocks declined compared to 1,051 that gained. In a sign of increased market uncertainty, the India VIX, which measures volatility, surged by 24.83%.
