The rally showed broad market participation. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), 1,585 stocks advanced compared to 946 decliners, with 67 ending unchanged. Similarly, on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), 2,384 stocks rose while 1,601 fell.
Investor sentiment appeared to improve, as reflected by the India VIX, a key gauge of expected market volatility. The index, often called the "fear gauge," fell 4.26% to close at 12.03, suggesting a decrease in market uncertainty.
Sector Leaders and Key Movers
Technology and consumer goods companies were among the top drivers of Wednesday's gains. The best-performing stocks on the Nifty 50 included:
Ad- Jio Financial Services Ltd (JIOF): Rose 4.86% to close at 248.61.
- Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HLL): Gained 4.79% to end at 2,119.50.
- Infosys Ltd (INFY): Climbed 4.37% to 1,154.00.
On the BSE Sensex 30, top performers included Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, and Tata Steel Ltd (TISC), which gained 2.55%. In contrast, laggards on the Nifty 50 included Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSE), which fell 2.97%, and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (MAHM), which declined 1.32%.
Commodities and Currencies
In the broader markets, energy prices saw a significant increase. Crude oil for September delivery rose 4.37% to $82.72 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract gained 4.11% to trade at $85.45 a barrel.
In foreign exchange, the Indian Rupee strengthened against the U.S. dollar, with the USD/INR pair declining by 0.14% to 95.72. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, was down a marginal 0.02% at 101.24.
