Indian Benchmarks Close Flat as IT Gains Offset Broader Market Weakness

Summary
India's Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex indices ended Thursday's session nearly unchanged, with gains in technology stocks counteracting losses in sectors like real estate and healthcare amidst a broader market decline.
Indian equity benchmarks ended Thursday's session nearly unchanged, as gains in technology and consumer durables stocks were offset by losses in the real estate and healthcare sectors. The NSE Nifty 50 index edged down by a marginal 0.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index closed flat, according to data from Investing.com.
A Divergent Session
The flat finish of the headline indices masked a broader negative sentiment across the market. On the India National Stock Exchange (NSE), declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones by a margin of 1,408 to 1,145, indicating underlying weakness despite the stability of the major averages.
Sector performance was clearly split. The IT and Technology indices provided key support throughout the session, preventing a wider market downturn. Conversely, the Real Estate, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), and Healthcare sectors faced selling pressure, weighing on overall performance.

In currency markets, the Indian rupee weakened against the U.S. dollar, with the USD/INR pair rising 0.24% to 96.48. Commodity markets were mixed, with Brent crude oil futures for September delivery ticking down 0.22% to trade at $84.76 a barrel.
