IBEX 35 Slips to 1-Month Low as Construction and Financial Stocks Decline

Spain's benchmark stock index, the IBEX 35, finished lower in Thursday's trading session, declining 0.18% to close at a new one-month low. The downturn was primarily driven by weakness across several key sectors, according to market data from the Madrid Stock Exchange.
Sector Performance
Losses were most pronounced in the Building & Construction, Consumer Services, and Financial Services & Real Estate sectors, which weighed on the broader index. Market breadth was negative, though narrowly, with falling stocks outnumbering advancing ones by 97 to 92, while 19 constituents ended the session unchanged.
The session's worst performers were led by construction and services firm ACS Actividades de Construccion y Servicios SA (BME:ACS), which saw its shares fall 4.44%. Other notable decliners included:
- ArcelorMittal SA (BME:MTS): down 3.07%
- Puig Brands SA (BME:PUIGb): down 2.41%
AdConversely, some firms bucked the negative trend. The top gainer was SOLARIA ENERGIA Y MEDIO AMBIENTE (BME:SLRS), which rose 1.85%. It was followed by telecom giants Telefonica (BME:TEF) and Cellnex Telecom SA (BME:CLNX), which added 1.46% and 1.41%, respectively.
Broader Market Context
In the commodities market, energy prices surged, with Crude Oil futures for October delivery climbing 5.72% to $101.54 a barrel. In contrast, precious metals declined, as Gold Futures for December delivery fell 1.24%. In currency markets, the EUR/USD and EUR/GBP pairs were largely unchanged, while the U.S. Dollar Index Futures edged up 0.14%.
