H&M Q3 Operating Profit Surpasses Analyst Forecasts

Summary
The Swedish fashion retailer reported a June-August operating profit of 6.04 billion crowns, exceeding the 5.14 billion crown LSEG forecast, even as sales growth remained modest.
Swedish fashion retailer H&M on Thursday reported a significant beat on third-quarter operating profit, signaling potential progress in its margin improvement efforts despite sluggish sales growth.
Profit Beats Expectations
For its fiscal third quarter, covering the June-to-August period, H&M posted an operating profit of 6.04 billion Swedish crowns ($608.63 million). This figure substantially exceeded the 5.14 billion crowns anticipated by analysts in an LSEG poll and marked a notable increase from the 4.91 billion crowns reported in the same period a year earlier.
The stronger-than-expected profitability suggests that the company's focus on cost controls and inventory management may be yielding positive results. For investors, this outperformance on the bottom line is a key metric, especially in a challenging consumer environment.
AdSales Growth Remains Muted
While profit surged, top-line growth was modest. The company reported that sales for the quarter increased by 1% in local currencies, a figure that was in line with analyst expectations for a slow-growth period.
Looking ahead, H&M said it expects this trend to continue, forecasting that sales in September would also be up 1% in local currencies. This indicates that the retailer continues to navigate a difficult market for apparel demand.
