Google Makes AI Video Tool 'Vids' Free for All Users, Powered by Gemini

Google announced on Wednesday that it is making its AI video creation tool, Google Vids, available for free to anyone with a personal Google account or a Google Workspace account. The move significantly broadens access to generative video technology, leveraging the company's Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash model to produce high-definition content.

According to the announcement, the service allows users to generate 1080p HD video scenes from text prompts. The underlying Omni 1.1 model is designed to maintain visual consistency across clips, preserving elements like lighting, character appearance, and environmental context. Users can also extend scenes with smooth transitions and set specific durations for the generated video clips.

To simplify the creation process, Google Vids includes ready-to-use templates. For transparency, every video generated with the platform will include a SynthID digital watermark, which Google states is imperceptible to the human eye but allows for verification that the content is AI-generated.
