Genus Shares Surge After Raising Full-Year Profit Forecast

Summary
The UK-based animal genetics firm announced its adjusted profit for fiscal 2026 is expected to be approximately £98 million, significantly exceeding analyst consensus and driving the stock up over 5%.
Shares of Genus plc (LSE: GNS) surged after the animal genetics company announced its full-year adjusted profit is expected to significantly exceed market expectations. The company cited a stronger-than-anticipated performance in the second half of its fiscal year, driven by growth across its core divisions.
Profit Forecast Beats Expectations
In an end-of-year trading update, Genus said it anticipates adjusted profit before tax for fiscal year 2026 to be approximately £98 million. This figure is comfortably above the current range of analyst consensus estimates.
The upbeat forecast sent the company's stock climbing 5.8% to 2,151 pence in morning trade. The performance stands in stark contrast to the broader UK market, with the FTSE 100 index trading near flat amid a risk-averse macroeconomic environment.
Divisional Strength Drives Growth
The company reported broad-based strength across its two primary businesses, which more than compensated for isolated market challenges.
Ad- PIC (porcine genetics): The unit delivered robust growth in key markets, including China and Latin America. This performance successfully offset the impact of customer disease issues reported in North America.
- ABS (bovine genetics): This division achieved double-digit profit growth, driven by the company's ongoing "Value Acceleration Programme." The growth was realized despite softer customer demand and the headwind of lower global dairy prices weighing on the product mix.
Strong Cash Flow and Balance Sheet
Beyond the profit upgrade, Genus also highlighted its "very strong cash conversion" during the second half of the fiscal year. This is expected to translate into significant free cash flow growth and a "substantially strengthened balance sheet" as the company enters fiscal year 2027.
The combination of a profit beat, strong cash generation, and cross-divisional momentum provided a clear, company-specific catalyst for the stock's significant outperformance on the day.
