Genscript Biotech Stock Surges Over 16% on Eli Lilly AI Partnership

Shares of Genscript Biotech (1548.HK) surged on Thursday, closing up 16.2% at HK$37.82 after the company announced a strategic partnership with an initiative from pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly.
AI Drug Discovery Collaboration
The catalyst for the rally was Genscript's collaboration with Lilly TuneLab™, an AI and machine learning-powered drug discovery platform. Under the agreement, Genscript will provide crucial wet lab services to support the initiative.
This role involves translating computational predictions generated by Lilly's AI into tangible biological validation data. The objective is to significantly accelerate the evaluation process for new drug candidates, bridging the gap between digital modeling and real-world laboratory results.
AdStrategic Funding and Sector Rally
The partnership news follows Genscript's recent completion of a substantial share placement that raised approximately HK$2.35 billion in net proceeds. The company has designated about 70% of this capital to scale up its own AI drug discovery platform and infrastructure, with another 20% allocated for related research and development.
Investor enthusiasm extended beyond Genscript, lifting other companies in Hong Kong's Contract Research Organization (CRO) sector. The move suggests a broader re-rating by the market of companies with exposure to the growing field of AI-assisted drug discovery. This targeted rally occurred even as the broader Hang Seng index fell by 0.9%.
