Funding Circle Shares Fall Over 11% on CEO Departure News
Text size
Background

Shares of Funding Circle (LSE: FCH) dropped sharply on Tuesday, falling 11.5% to 203.5p after the company announced CEO Lisa Jacobs plans to step down by September 2027. The news introduced significant leadership uncertainty, overshadowing the release of strong half-year financial results and an upgraded forecast.

Leadership Change Rattles Investors

The sell-off appeared to be a direct reaction to the announcement of the CEO's future departure, which was included in the company's half-year 2026 results. The change at the top injects a degree of uncertainty into the company's strategic direction at a time of significant growth.

The decline was company-specific, as the broader UK market offered little distraction. The FTSE 100 index was trading nearly flat, indicating that the pressure on Funding Circle's stock was not driven by wider macroeconomic or sector-based headwinds, according to market data from the day.

The market's negative reaction came despite a robust financial report from the lending platform. For the first half of 2026, Funding Circle announced:

  • Revenue: £138.2 million, a 50% increase from £92.3 million in the same period a year earlier.
  • Profit Before Tax: £24.1 million, a fourfold improvement from £6.0 million in the first half of 2025.

Alongside these results, the company raised its full-year 2026 guidance. Management now expects revenue to exceed £255 million and pre-tax profit to be more than £40 million. The company also announced a new share buyback program of up to £25 million, which will bring the total capital returned to shareholders to approximately £100 million since March 2024.
