Finnish Stocks End Lower as Neste, Nokia Drag Down OMX Helsinki 25

Summary
Finland's benchmark OMX Helsinki 25 index closed down 0.40% on Monday, pulled lower by significant declines in the energy and telecommunications sectors, even as a majority of stocks on the exchange posted gains.
Finland's benchmark stock index, the OMX Helsinki 25, finished in negative territory on Monday, weighed down by losses in key industrial and technology sectors. The index closed the session down 0.40%, according to data from the Helsinki Stock Exchange.
Sector Weakness Drives Index Lower
The decline was primarily led by poor performance in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms, and Utilities sectors. The session's worst performer on the index was energy firm Neste Oyj (HE:NESTE), which saw its shares fall 5.19%. The drop in Neste's stock coincided with a significant downturn in global crude oil prices.
Other major companies contributing to the index's decline included industrial machinery manufacturer Metso Oyj (HE:METSO), which lost 4.45%, and telecommunications equipment maker Nokia Oyj (HE:NOKIA), which ended the day down 3.77%.
Contrasting Gainers and Market Breadth
AdDespite the headline index's fall, overall market breadth was positive. Advancing stocks on the Helsinki Stock Exchange outnumbered decliners 101 to 73, with 19 issues ending unchanged. This divergence indicates that Monday's losses were concentrated in large-cap index components rather than the broader market.
Leading the gainers on the OMX Helsinki 25 was software company Qt Group Oyj (HE:QTCOM), which surged 5.67%. Pulp and paper firms also had a strong session, with UPM-Kymmene Oyj (HE:UPM) adding 3.16% and Stora Enso Oyj R (HE:STERV) rising 2.30%.
Broader Market Context
In the commodity markets, Brent crude futures for October delivery were down 5.50% to $86.64 a barrel, while WTI crude for September delivery fell 6.60% to $83.42 a barrel. Meanwhile, currency markets remained relatively stable, with the EUR/USD and EUR/GBP pairs seeing minimal changes.
