Crypto derivatives exchange Deribit and trading software provider SignalPlus have launched their fifth joint trading competition, offering a prize pool of up to $600,000 USDC. The event, named "The Island," is designed to incentivize trading activity among sophisticated retail traders in crypto options and futures.

Rankings will be based on notional trading volume, with a distinct weighting system applied to different products.

  • Prize Pool: Up to $600,000 USDC
  • Competition Period: July 6 – August 10, 2026
  • Eligibility: Must trade on Deribit via SignalPlus

This iteration introduces several new mechanics aimed at increasing user engagement. A "Mystery Box" feature offers guaranteed prizes for users who make and maintain deposits, while a new weekly Profit and Loss (P&L) leaderboard rewards performance, not just volume. The event also includes a "Flash Arena" designed to boost activity in short-dated options by offering reward multipliers and other incentives.

"The Island brings together everything we want this competition to be: bigger scale, stronger participation loops, and a structure that rewards how active options traders actually engage," said Luuk Strijers, Senior Director from Deribit by Coinbase. He described it as the firm's "most ambitious retail trading campaign yet."

Market Context

Trading competitions are a common strategy used by cryptocurrency exchanges to boost liquidity and attract new users. By gamifying the trading experience and offering substantial prizes, platforms can drive significant short-term increases in volume, particularly for higher-margin products like derivatives.

Chris Yu, CEO and Co-Founder of SignalPlus, noted that the competition is designed to be "more dynamic and more rewarding" for various trader profiles. The event is operated by DRB Panama Inc. and is not intended for residents of certain jurisdictions, including Dubai, UAE, as per the organizers' terms and conditions.
