Deribit and SignalPlus Launch $600,000 Crypto Derivatives Trading Competition

Cryptocurrency derivatives exchange Deribit and trading software provider SignalPlus have announced the launch of a large-scale trading competition with a prize pool of up to $600,000 USDC. The 35-day event, named 'The Island,' is designed to drive engagement and volume in the crypto options and futures markets, according to a press release issued on July 6.
Competition Details
The competition runs from July 6 to August 10, 2026, with registration open for the duration of the event. To be eligible, participants must execute trades on the Deribit exchange through the SignalPlus software interface. Winners will be determined based on notional trading volume in eligible derivatives contracts.
Key details of the event include:
- Total Prize Pool: Up to $600,000 USDC
- Competition Period: July 6, 2026, 08:00 UTC – August 10, 2026, 23:59 UTC
- Structure: Includes solo and team competitions, daily missions, and weekly leaderboards.
The scoring system is designed to favor options trading, with options volume weighted 1.0 and futures volume weighted 0.5. This structure directly incentivizes activity in Deribit's core market.
Focus on Retail Trader Engagement
AdThis year's competition introduces several new mechanics aimed at increasing participation. These include a 'Flash Arena' that rewards trading in short-dated options and a 'Mystery Box' system for users who make deposits. The event targets what the organizers describe as sophisticated retail traders.
"The Island brings together everything we want this competition to be: bigger scale, stronger participation loops, and a structure that rewards how active options traders actually engage," said Luuk Strijers, Senior Director at Deribit by Coinbase. He described the campaign as the firm's "most ambitious" to date.
Chris Yu, CEO and Co-Founder of SignalPlus, added that the goal is to create "a more immersive experience for sophisticated retail traders" by making participation more dynamic and rewarding.
Market Context
Deribit is a prominent centralized exchange for institutional-grade crypto derivatives, facilitating a significant portion of global crypto options volume. SignalPlus provides specialized trading software and infrastructure for accessing these markets. Trading competitions are a common strategy used by exchanges to attract active traders and boost platform liquidity.
The organizers noted in their announcement that virtual assets are subject to extreme market volatility and involve a high degree of risk. The campaign is run by DRB Panama Inc. and is not intended for residents of certain jurisdictions, including Dubai, UAE.
