D-Wave Quantum Stock Gains on Strategic Partnership with IT Firm CGI

Summary
Shares of D-Wave Quantum Inc. (QBTS) rose in premarket trading after the company announced a strategic partnership with global IT and business consulting giant CGI (GIB) to develop and commercialize quantum computing applications for enterprise clients.
Shares of D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NASDAQ: QBTS) gained 4.4% in Wednesday premarket trading following the announcement of a strategic partnership with CGI (NYSE: GIB). The collaboration is designed to accelerate the adoption of quantum computing solutions for complex business challenges across various industries.
Partnership Details
Under the agreement, CGI will integrate D-Wave's quantum computing platforms into its extensive portfolio of technology services. This includes access to D-Wave's annealing quantum computers, such as the upcoming Advantage2 system, and its quantum-classical hybrid solvers. The partnership builds on more than a year of previous collaboration between the two firms.
The companies will co-develop solutions targeting specific, high-impact optimization problems for enterprise clients. Key focus areas include:
- Transportation & Logistics: Train scheduling and rail network optimization.
- Retail: Supply chain planning and workforce scheduling.
- Industrials: Production planning, energy grid optimization, and asset maintenance.
Executive Outlook
AdExecutives from both companies highlighted the partnership's goal of moving quantum computing from exploration to production. "As AI adoption advances and organizations seek new ways to solve increasingly complex business objectives, quantum computing is emerging as a practical complement to classical computing for selected use cases," said Dave Henderson, Chief Technology Officer at CGI.
Lorenzo Martinelli, D-Wave's chief revenue officer, stated the alliance combines D-Wave’s quantum technology with CGI’s global scale and industry expertise. This synergy, he noted, aims to provide organizations with a clear path to implementing quantum-hybrid applications to solve mission-critical problems that are difficult for classical computers alone.
Market Context
The deal pairs D-Wave, a provider of both annealing and gate-model quantum systems, with CGI, one of the world's largest independent IT and business consulting firms. For investors, this partnership signals a growing enterprise appetite for practical quantum applications and represents a significant commercialization channel for D-Wave's technology, leveraging CGI's established client relationships.
