CVR Energy, HF Sinclair Surge Over 75% on Analyst Upgrades Ahead of Earnings

Shares of energy firms CVR Energy (CVI) and HF Sinclair (DINO) have registered substantial gains ahead of their upcoming earnings reports, bolstered by a series of positive analyst actions. The rallies follow the stocks' earlier identification by an AI-driven market analysis model, according to a report from Investing.com.
Analyst Actions Bolster Rallies
Both refining companies have seen their stock prices appreciate significantly in recent months, with Wall Street analysts taking a more bullish stance ahead of their next quarterly results. According to the report, the two energy stocks have delivered major returns since being flagged by the model:
- CVR Energy (CVI): Has rallied +74.69% in less than three months.
- HF Sinclair (DINO): Has gained +77.98% in under five months.
This momentum is supported by recent analyst commentary. CVR Energy has seen price target increases from Goldman Sachs, UBS, and Mizuho, along with a credit rating upgrade to B1 from Moody's. Meanwhile, Piper Sandler initiated coverage on HF Sinclair with an "Overweight" rating, and Goldman Sachs reiterated its "Buy" rating while raising its price target to $142.
CVR Energy's Strong Profit Outlook
AdAnticipation for CVR Energy's upcoming Q3 earnings report is high, with analysts projecting a year-over-year EPS increase of approximately 590% to $2.76, the report states. Insider confidence also appears strong, with $16.4 million in stock purchased by insiders over the past year.
The report notes that the AI model highlighted CVR in August due to its combination of a low PEG ratio of 0.43, strong quarterly revenue growth of ~55% year-over-year to $2.74 billion, and high operational efficiency, with petroleum refineries running at 98% utilization.
HF Sinclair's Growth Trajectory
HF Sinclair's rally follows a recent blowout quarter that featured $10.39 billion in revenue and an adjusted EBITDA that more than doubled to $1.48 billion. The company also generated $1.5 billion in net cash from operations during the period.
According to Investing.com, the AI analysis flagged the stock for its explosive earnings growth, noting a Q1 EPS of $0.69 that beat analyst forecasts by nearly 900%. Other contributing factors included a compelling valuation and a robust capital return program that included an increased quarterly dividend and expanded share repurchases.
