Crypto Stocks Rally as Bitcoin and Ethereum Post Sharp Gains

Summary
Shares of companies with exposure to digital assets, including Coinbase and MicroStrategy, surged on Friday, tracking a significant price increase in major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Shares of cryptocurrency and blockchain-related companies rallied sharply on Friday, driven by a strong upward move in the prices of the two largest digital assets, Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Broad Gains in Crypto-Exposed Equities
The rally lifted a wide range of companies with ties to the digital asset market. Exchange operator Coinbase (COIN) saw its shares jump by 11.2%, while business intelligence firm MicroStrategy (MSTR), known for its substantial bitcoin holdings, soared 12.9%. Trading platform Robinhood Markets (HOOD) also participated in the rally, gaining 7.8%.
Digital asset miners were among the top performers, with major players posting significant gains:
- Riot Platforms (RIOT)
- Marathon Digital (MARA)
- Hut 8 (HUT)
- Bit Digital (BTBT)
AdShares for these mining companies advanced between 3% and 10%, according to Investing.com data.
Digital Assets Drive the Surge
The gains in equities closely followed the performance of the underlying cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin (BTC), the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, rose 5.7% to trade at $80,941.54. Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest, climbed 5.9% to $2,594.32.
According to Alice Liu, head of research at CoinMarketCap, the rally suggests that recent interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan were likely already priced into the market. "More important question now is how higher funding costs affect positioning," Liu noted in a comment to Investing.com.
