ConocoPhillips Announces Workforce Reductions in Canada

ConocoPhillips is reducing its workforce in Canada, a move affecting both employees and contractors, a company spokesperson confirmed on Monday. The staff reductions are scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
Details of the Reduction
The Houston, Texas-based oil and gas producer did not disclose the specific number of jobs that will be eliminated. The company stated the decision is part of a regular organizational review.
"We routinely review our organization to align with our long-term strategy, operate safely and efficiently, and remain well-positioned for future opportunities," the spokesperson said in a statement. According to its 2025 annual report, ConocoPhillips employed approximately 9,900 people globally.
AdBroader Corporate Restructuring
These job cuts are part of a larger, previously announced restructuring plan aimed at streamlining operations and reducing costs. The reorganization follows ConocoPhillips' acquisition of Marathon Oil.
Last year, the company announced its intention to cut its workforce by 20% to 25%. At the time, ConocoPhillips indicated that most of the reductions would occur before 2025, with the entire reorganization expected to be finalized in 2026. The market reaction to Monday's news was muted, with shares of the company trading marginally higher in the afternoon.
