Citi's Bullish CPU Forecast Sparks Broad Rally in Semiconductor Stocks

Semiconductor stocks rallied broadly on Tuesday, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index climbing 1.6%, after a bullish report from Citi analysts significantly raised the long-term outlook for the central processing unit (CPU) market.
Citi's Upbeat Forecast
In a note released ahead of its Global TMT Conference, Citi raised its forecast for the total addressable market (TAM) for CPUs to $237 billion by 2030. This new projection represents a substantial increase from an estimated $29 billion market in 2025, implying a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 52%.
Citi's forecast is notably more aggressive than recent estimates provided by industry leaders, including AMD's $100 billion, Arm Holdings' $220 billion, and Nvidia's $200 billion projections for their respective addressable markets.
Market Reaction
The positive sentiment fueled a surge across the sector, with major chip designers and manufacturers leading the gains. The rally also extended to companies in the related optical technology space.
AdKey stock movements included:
- Intel (INTC): +9.8%
- Advanced Micro Devices (AMD): +6.6%
- Arm Holdings (ARM): +4.7%
- Lumentum (LITE): +12.6%
- Coherent (COHR): +8.8%
- Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI): +8.0%
AMD Seen as Top Beneficiary
Citi's analysts attributed their upgrade to a "more constructive view" on technological innovation within the server CPU segment. The bank identified AMD as the "biggest beneficiary" of what it termed a "CPU renaissance."
According to the report, Intel is positioned as a "secondary beneficiary" of the anticipated market expansion, as both companies stand to gain from the rapid growth projected for the industry.
