China's CXMT Starts Mass Production of Advanced DRAM, Shares Climb

Summary
Shares of Chinese memory chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) gained after the company announced it has begun mass production of its next-generation DRAM platform, a key step in China's push for semiconductor self-sufficiency.
Shares of Shanghai-listed ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) rose on Monday after the company announced a significant manufacturing milestone. The Chinese chipmaker has officially started mass production of its fifth-generation dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) technology platform.
Mass Production Milestone
CXMT (SS:688825) made the announcement on Sunday at the 2026 World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei, according to a company statement. Following the news, the company's shares climbed 2.6% to 56.97 yuan by 05:16 GMT on Monday.
In addition to the new G5 platform, CXMT also launched two new LPDDR5X memory products. These chips, which are already in mass production, are designed for use in smartphones and other portable consumer electronics.
Technological Advancements
The company stated that its new G5 platform represents a substantial improvement in performance and efficiency over its predecessor. Key technical specifications highlighted by CXMT include:
Ad- A die-per-wafer output that is at least 50% higher than the previous generation, improving cost competitiveness.
- The two new LPDDR5X products each offer a capacity of 24 gigabits per die, a 50% increase from the prior generation's equivalent products.
- The platform's memory-array half-pitch has reached 11.95 nanometres.
These advancements bring CXMT's process technology closer to the industry's most advanced mass-production memory platforms, according to the company.
Context for Investors
This development is a notable step in China's broader strategy to build a more resilient domestic supply chain for critical technologies. Chinese semiconductor firms are actively working to reduce their dependence on overseas suppliers, particularly in light of U.S. restrictions on access to advanced chip technology.
For investors, CXMT's ability to mass-produce a more competitive DRAM platform signals progress in China's efforts to close the technology gap with global memory leaders. The move could enhance the company's market position and contribute to greater self-sufficiency within China's tech ecosystem.
