Cadence Lifts 2026 Forecast on Strong Q3 Earnings, AI-Driven Demand

Cadence Design Systems (CDNS) shares rose in premarket trading Tuesday after the company posted third-quarter results that surpassed analyst estimates and raised its full-year financial outlook, driven by strong demand for its artificial intelligence-focused chip design software.
Quarterly Performance Exceeds Expectations
The electronic design automation (EDA) firm reported adjusted earnings of $2.11 per share for the third quarter, beating the consensus analyst estimate of $2.04. Revenue for the period was $1.63 billion, also ahead of the anticipated $1.61 billion.
This top-line figure represents a 22% increase in revenue compared to the $1.34 billion reported in the same quarter of the previous year, underscoring significant growth momentum for the company.
Upgraded Outlook and Business Strength
Citing booming demand for its design tools, Cadence lifted its forecast for the full year 2026. The company now expects adjusted earnings per share in the range of $8.37 to $8.43, with the midpoint comfortably above the analyst consensus of $8.15.
Full-year revenue guidance was also raised to a range of $6.387 billion to $6.417 billion, which is higher than the consensus estimate of $6.323 billion. This guidance implies an annual revenue growth rate of 21%.
AdThe strong results were broad-based, with notable year-over-year growth across key business segments:
- Core chip design software revenue grew by 20%.
- Intellectual property (IP) revenue rose by 24%.
- System design and analysis revenue increased by 30%.
Cadence also reported a record backlog of $8.2 billion and an 18% increase in recurring revenue, signaling a healthy pipeline for future business. The company noted that its hardware division had a record quarter, with strong growth in its cloud offerings.
Market Reaction and Shareholder Returns
Following the announcement, shares of Cadence rose approximately 2% in premarket trading. The stock had closed the prior session at $322.17.
Demonstrating confidence in its financial position, the company repurchased $400 million of its shares during the third quarter. The board of directors also authorized a new $2.5 billion share repurchase program.
