CAC 40 Slips 0.60% as Hermes Plunge Offsets Kering Surge

Summary
The French CAC 40 index closed down 0.60% on Wednesday, weighed by losses in consumer sectors. A dramatic 11% drop in Hermes International shares contrasted with a nearly 17% rally for Kering.
French stocks finished Wednesday's session in negative territory, with the benchmark CAC 40 index declining as weakness in consumer-related sectors overshadowed significant gains in individual names like Kering.
Market Performance
At the close of trading in Paris, the CAC 40 index fell 0.60%, while the broader SBF 120 index slipped 0.47%. The pullback was primarily driven by losses in the Consumer Goods, Consumer Services, and Basic Materials sectors, according to market data.
Despite the headline declines, market breadth was slightly positive on the Paris Stock Exchange. Data showed 235 stocks advancing compared to 228 decliners, while 85 issues ended the session unchanged.
Luxury Stocks Diverge Sharply

- Worst Performers (CAC 40): Hermes International SCA (-11.03%), STMicroelectronics NV (-3.55%), and Danone SA (-2.30%).
Volatility Gauge Hits Yearly High
An indicator of investor anxiety, the CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of index options, closed at a new 52-week high of 18.96, signaling heightened market uncertainty.
In the broader commodities market, energy prices saw a significant rally. Crude oil for September delivery rose 7.29% to $85.04 a barrel, while the October Brent contract climbed 7.26% to $88.04 a barrel. The US Dollar Index Futures saw a modest gain of 0.05%.
