Background

BTSE Group, a global provider of digital asset trading solutions, has officially launched a regulated cryptocurrency exchange in Indonesia through a joint venture with PT Aset Kripto Internasional. The new entity, BTSE Indonesia, marks the firm's strategic entry into one of Southeast Asia's most rapidly expanding digital asset markets.

The launch follows the rebranding of NVX, an existing regulated Indonesian digital asset platform, according to a company announcement. The move establishes a formal presence for BTSE in a country with a growing demand for crypto services.

Regulatory Status and Operations

BTSE Indonesia is licensed by the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) to operate as a regulated Digital Financial Assets and Crypto Assets Trading Operator (PAKD). This regulatory approval is a critical component of the venture, providing a framework for compliant operations.

The license enables BTSE Indonesia to:

  • Collaborate with local Indonesian banks for seamless transactions.
  • Offer Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) deposits, withdrawals, and conversions.
  • Provide IDR-denominated trading pairs for its user base.
  • Explore the potential introduction of additional services, such as futures trading, in line with local regulations.

Under the joint venture agreement, BTSE Group will supply the core trading infrastructure, including its technology stack and liquidity access. Its local partner, PT Aset Kripto Internasional, will lead user acquisition, marketing, and strategic partnerships within Indonesia, leveraging its market-specific expertise.

"Indonesia has everything it takes to be Asia’s next major crypto hub; the population, the demand, and now the regulatory framework," said Jeff Mei, Chief Operating Officer of BTSE Group. Stephanie Kusnadi, Chief Strategy Officer of BTSE Indonesia, added that the venture is "uniquely positioned to deliver a trading platform that is secure, competitive, and fully compliant with local regulations."

Market Context

The expansion into Indonesia highlights a trend of global crypto firms seeking growth in markets with developing regulatory clarity. For investors, the launch of a regulated platform with local fiat currency integration offers a more accessible on-ramp to the digital asset class.

BTSE Indonesia will initially offer trading for more than 200+ digital assets against the Indonesian Rupiah and USDT. The parent company, BTSE Group, reports processing over $30 billion in monthly trading volume across its global platforms.
