Broadcom, Major Banks Unveil $63 Billion AI Compute Financing for Anthropic

Broadcom Inc. and a group of major financial institutions have announced a $63 billion transaction to finance the deployment of artificial intelligence compute capacity for AI developer Anthropic. The deal, announced Monday, represents a novel approach to funding the massive hardware requirements of the rapidly growing AI industry.
The Financing Structure
The transaction will be executed through a newly formed special purpose vehicle (SPV). This SPV will use the committed financing to purchase Broadcom's XPU AI accelerators and networking solutions, which will then be leased to Anthropic. Deliveries under the agreement are expected to begin in calendar 2027.
The financing is structured in two parts:
- First Lien: Bank of America, Citi, and Morgan Stanley will arrange the senior portion of the financing.
- Second Lien: Blackstone will serve as the sole provider for the committed junior portion of the debt.
Notably, Broadcom will provide residual value support to the SPV for an amount equivalent to the first lien financing, signaling the company's confidence in the long-term value of its technology.
AdMarket Implications
This landmark deal underscores the enormous capital investments needed to build out AI infrastructure and validates the use of sophisticated financial instruments to fund them. "The rapidly growing demand for AI is creating an enormous opportunity to finance compute capacity at scale," said Jon Gray, President and COO at Blackstone.
For Broadcom, the agreement secures a major, long-term customer and showcases its central role in the AI supply chain. "This validates that there is capital available to finance such growth and that Broadcom is uniquely positioned to enable it," said Hock Tan, President and CEO of Broadcom. Following the news, Broadcom shares (AVGO) traded approximately 0.6% higher in after-hours trading on Monday.
Context: Anthropic's Expansion
The financing arrangement was announced the same day Anthropic officially filed for its initial public offering. The AI company, which plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT," is securing the critical, long-term compute power necessary to scale its models and compete in the AI landscape.
