Background

Redemption requests at a flagship BlackRock private credit fund slowed in the third quarter, a positive signal for an industry that has been grappling with elevated withdrawal pressures from retail investors.

Key Details

According to a regulatory filing on Friday, investors in BlackRock’s HPS Corporate Lending Fund sought to withdraw approximately 11.5% of the fund's shares. This marks a notable decrease from the 13.3% requested in the prior quarter.

In line with the customary threshold for such investment vehicles, the fund will repurchase 5% of its shares, which amounts to roughly $600 million. These types of funds typically limit how much investors can pull out at any given time to avoid forced asset sales.

Easing Pressure on Private Credit

The latest figures from BlackRock add to growing evidence that the private credit sector may be moving past a period of intense redemption demand. Asset managers have been systematically working through a backlog of unfulfilled withdrawal requests from investors.

The data follows a similar third-quarter report from Blackstone last week. Financial market participants are now awaiting further redemption data from other major non-traded private credit funds, which is expected to be released throughout September.
