Background

Bitcoin's price climbed nearly 2% on Thursday to trade above $63,000, as signs of de-escalating conflict between the U.S. and Iran improved investor risk appetite and pushed oil prices lower. The move reversed losses from the previous session, highlighting the digital asset market's sensitivity to geopolitical developments.

Market Rebounds on Geopolitical De-escalation

By 17:09 ET, Bitcoin was trading up 1.9% at $63,352.8, according to data from Investing.com. The rally followed comments from U.S. President Donald Trump indicating that Iran had contacted Washington and wanted to "make a deal so badly," which helped calm investor fears of a wider military conflict.

This contrasted sharply with the prior day's trading, when Bitcoin fell nearly 2% after Trump stated a ceasefire was "over." The improved sentiment was also reflected in commodity markets, where oil prices declined from recent highs.

Spot Demand and On-Chain Metrics Signal Resilience

Analysts noted that the recovery showed market resilience, with the rally appearing to be driven by fundamental demand rather than speculation. "The move higher is being driven by spot demand rather than leverage," said Iliya Kalchev, an analyst at Nexo Dispatch, in comments cited by the source. He pointed to data from Glassnode showing Bitcoin futures open interest has declined to around $30 billion as the price recovered.

Kalchev also highlighted a constructive long-term signal for the market:

  • The supply of Bitcoin held on centralized exchanges has fallen to its lowest level since 2017.
  • This represents roughly 6.6% of the circulating supply.
  • Historically, sustained declines in exchange balances have often preceded extended bull markets by reducing available selling pressure.

Macroeconomic Backdrop

Investors were also processing the minutes from the Federal Reserve's June policy meeting. The report showed a divided committee, with a few participants advocating for an immediate interest rate hike while most saw scenarios where inflation would cool on its own. Kalchev characterized the minutes as striking a "more divided and less hawkish tone than markets feared."

The positive sentiment extended across the digital asset space. Major alternative cryptocurrencies, or altcoins, also posted gains, with Ethereum adding 0.6% and other tokens like XRP, Solana, and Cardano ticking higher.
