Bitcoin Price Dips Below $64,000 Amid Geopolitical Tensions, Tech Sell-Off

Bitcoin's price fell on Tuesday as escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a sell-off in technology stocks prompted a flight from riskier assets. The decline occurred despite renewed signs of institutional interest, with U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recording significant net inflows.
Risk-Off Sentiment Grows on Middle East Tensions
Investor sentiment soured after the U.S. military launched retaliatory strikes against Iran. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the strikes were a response to attacks on three commercial oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) had earlier reported the attacks, raising its threat level for the region to "severe."
Such geopolitical escalations typically drive investors toward safer assets, pressuring more speculative investments like cryptocurrencies. The market reaction was evident as oil prices spiked more than 5% on the news.
Tech Pullback and ETF Inflows
Adding to the pressure on digital assets was a concurrent slide in technology stocks. The sell-off was partly triggered by guidance from Samsung Electronics which, despite a strong profit forecast, fueled concerns among investors that the recent artificial intelligence-driven market rally may be overextended.
AdHowever, institutional demand for Bitcoin showed signs of strengthening, providing a partial buffer against the negative sentiment. According to data compiled by SoSoValue, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw a notable turnaround after a period of heavy withdrawals in late June.
- Net inflows reached $265.7 million on Monday.
- This followed $221.7 million in inflows on July 2.
Altcoins Follow Bitcoin Lower
The negative sentiment extended across the broader cryptocurrency market, with most major altcoins trading in the red. By Tuesday evening, Bitcoin was down approximately 1.4% to $63,305.
Other major tokens also posted losses, with Ethereum (ETH) falling 1.8% and XRP declining by 3.1%. Solana (SOL) and Cardano (ADA) were down 2% and 5.5%, respectively. Market participants are now looking ahead to the release of Federal Reserve meeting minutes on Wednesday for further clues on the monetary policy outlook.
