Background

Bitcoin held above the key $81,000 support level on Saturday, though investor sentiment remains cautious following a week of significant and divergent flows from U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

As of 3:00 PM ET, the world's largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization was trading at $81,544.8, a modest increase of 0.6%. The stability comes after a volatile period where Bitcoin briefly dipped below $80,000 before recovering. Earlier in the week, it had reached a high above $84,000 but failed to sustain the momentum amid strong U.S. economic data and renewed expectations of Federal Reserve interest rate hikes.

Volatile ETF Flows Signal Uncertainty

Data from Coinfomania cited by Investing.com highlighted the erratic nature of institutional demand. On October 16, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced a collective net outflow of $82.39 million. A significant portion of this came from BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which saw $71.78 million in redemptions.

The week was characterized by sharp reversals in fund flows:

  • Oct. 12: Net outflows of $65.40 million, entirely from IBIT.
  • Oct. 13: A sharp reversal with $175.7 million in net inflows, led by Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) with $103.1 million.
  • Oct. 14: Another major shift, with net outflows totaling approximately $261.4 million.

These fluctuating flows underscore a wait-and-see approach from institutional investors as they assess the macroeconomic landscape and Bitcoin's price trajectory. Ethereum-related investment products also faced pressure, recording $69.68 million in net outflows on October 16.

Broader Market and Industry News

Most major altcoins saw minor gains on Saturday. Ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency, rose 0.5% to $2,417.92. Other notable movers included Solana, which gained 1%, while BNB and Cardano posted slight declines.

In related industry news, stablecoin issuer Circle Internet Group (NYSE: CRCL) disclosed that it generated approximately $1.4 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026. The company reported that its USDC stablecoin processed over $36 trillion in on-chain transactions in June, accounting for an estimated 77% of the global stablecoin transaction volume. Circle is scheduled to release its third-quarter earnings on November 4.

For Bitcoin traders, the immediate focus remains on whether ETF demand can stabilize and help propel the price back towards the $83,000 resistance level. Continued outflows could increase pressure on the critical $80,000 support mark.
