Bitcoin Holds Above $62,000 as US Crypto Regulation Bill Gains Traction

Bitcoin held its ground above the $62,000 level over the weekend, with market sentiment buoyed by renewed legislative momentum for a comprehensive cryptocurrency bill in the United States. As of Sunday afternoon, the leading digital asset traded at $62,686, down a slight 0.60% amid thin trading, according to Investing.com data.
US Regulatory Bill Sees Renewed Hope
A key driver for investor optimism is the CLARITY Act, a significant piece of legislation aimed at establishing a clear regulatory framework for digital assets in the U.S. According to prediction market Polymarket, the probability of the bill passing into law has risen above 50% following key endorsements from U.S. law enforcement organizations.
The bill has garnered widespread industry support from over 200 firms, including major exchanges and projects like Coinbase, Ripple, and Kraken. Proponents argue that regulatory clarity is a critical step toward encouraging broader and more confident participation from institutional investors.
Institutional Conviction and Security Risks
The theme of institutional adoption was further reinforced by comments from Strategy CEO Phong Le, who described Bitcoin as the "United States of money." Le argued its fixed supply and transparent policy could position it as a future global reserve asset. Strategy remains the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, with a treasury of over 818,000 BTC, according to the report.
AdHowever, the market was also reminded of persistent security risks. Blockchain security firm Hexens revealed it had discovered and helped patch a critical vulnerability in the Aptos blockchain. While no funds were lost, the flaw could have potentially exposed infrastructure supporting up to $70 billion in digital assets, highlighting the ongoing need for robust security audits in the sector.
Divergence in the Digital Asset Market
The focus on Bitcoin's institutional appeal stood in sharp contrast to the performance of more speculative assets. Blockchain analytics firm Nansen estimated that holders of the TRUMP memecoin have accumulated approximately $3.8 billion in combined losses, with the token's value down about 96% from its peak.
The broader altcoin market also saw modest declines. According to the source:
- Ethereum edged 0.2% lower to $1,775.44.
- XRP fell 2.29% to $1.1359.
- Solana and Cardano also posted minor losses.
