Bitcoin Holds Above $62,000 as U.S. Crypto Legislation Gains Traction

Bitcoin traded above the $62,000 mark during weekend sessions, as investors assessed renewed legislative optimism in the U.S. and signs of enduring institutional support for the leading digital asset. The market's stability comes amid a backdrop of high-profile security alerts and extreme volatility in more speculative corners of the crypto space.
Legislative Hopes Rise for U.S. Crypto Bill
A key driver for market sentiment was the increased likelihood of the CLARITY Act becoming law. According to data from prediction market Polymarket, the probability of the bill's passage has climbed above 50%, reviving momentum ahead of a narrow legislative window before the U.S. Congress's August recess.
The legislation, which is backed by more than 200 crypto firms including Coinbase, Ripple, and Kraken, is widely viewed as a significant attempt to establish a clear regulatory framework for digital assets in the United States. Proponents argue that such clarity could encourage broader and more confident institutional participation in the sector.
Institutional Conviction Contrasts with Meme Coin Collapse
Institutional interest was also underscored by comments from Strategy CEO Phong Le, who reportedly described Bitcoin as the "United States of money." He argued its transparent monetary policy and fixed supply could eventually position it as a global reserve asset. Strategy remains the world's largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, with a treasury of more than 818,000 BTC, reinforcing its long-term conviction.
AdThis institutional view stands in sharp contrast to the performance of highly speculative assets. According to blockchain analytics firm Nansen, holders of the TRUMP memecoin have accumulated combined losses of about $3.8 billion. The data, which showed the token had fallen around 96% from its peak, highlights a widening divergence between Bitcoin and the more speculative parts of the crypto market.
Security Vulnerability Serves as Reminder of Risk
The market was also reminded of underlying technological risks after security researchers disclosed they had discovered and helped patch a critical vulnerability in the Aptos blockchain. The flaw, identified by security firm Hexens, could have theoretically exposed infrastructure supporting as much as $70 billion in digital assets, according to the firm.
Although no funds were lost, the incident highlights the persistent security challenges facing the digital asset ecosystem. Traders will continue to monitor legislative developments in Washington, along with institutional fund flows and macroeconomic data, for further direction.
