Bitcoin Climbs Above $82,000 as Falling Oil Prices Improve Risk Sentiment

Bitcoin gained ground on Monday, recovering a portion of its recent losses as a sharp decline in global oil prices improved investor sentiment toward risk assets. The world's largest cryptocurrency rose 0.7% to $82,164.1 as of 9:54 AM ET, after falling for two consecutive weeks, according to data from Investing.com.
For the past month, Bitcoin has been trading in a range between $80,000 and $87,000. The market has faced headwinds from a series of negative factors, including soaring Treasury yields and a sell-off in technology stocks that prompted capital outflows.
Oil Price Drop Eases Rate Hike Fears
The primary catalyst for Monday's relief rally in crypto and other risk assets was a steep drop in oil prices. The decline followed reports that U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order waiving sanctions on Russian oil, a move expected to increase global supply and alleviate fuel shortages.
Lower oil prices have led to market speculation that inflationary pressures may be less severe than anticipated in the coming months. This could reduce the need for global central banks, including the Federal Reserve, to implement further interest rate hikes. Such a scenario is generally seen as positive for non-yielding assets like Bitcoin, as it lowers the opportunity cost of holding them. However, market participants still anticipate at least one more Fed rate hike this year amid signs of persistent U.S. inflation.
Corporate Buyer Strive Increases Holdings
AdAdding to market support, corporate Bitcoin treasury holder Strive disclosed a recent purchase of more digital assets. According to an 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, the company added 1,223 BTC to its holdings between October 14 and October 16.
The latest acquisition brings Strive's total Bitcoin reserves to 36,818 BTC, making it the fourth-largest publicly traded corporate holder of the asset. This purchase follows the company's acquisition of 4,045 bitcoins in the prior week.
Altcoins Post Modest Gains
The broader cryptocurrency market also saw modest gains on Monday, though most assets remained within their recent trading ranges. Key movements included:
- Ethereum (ETH): Rose 0.4% to $2,405.60.
- XRP: Gained 1.5%.
- Solana (SOL): Climbed 1.3%.
- BNB: Increased by 1.1%.
