Bitcoin Climbs Above $64,000, Tracking Tech-Led Market Rally

Bitcoin climbed above the $64,000 mark on Friday, positioning the digital asset for a weekly gain as a rally in technology shares improved broader market sentiment and spurred demand for riskier assets.
The world's largest cryptocurrency rose 1.2% to trade at $64,005.7 by 18:00 ET (22:00 GMT), according to market data. The advance puts Bitcoin on course for a weekly increase of over 2%, reversing losses from earlier in the week.
Risk Appetite Returns on Tech Gains
Bitcoin's recovery closely mirrored gains on Wall Street, where the tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite advanced nearly 2% for the week. Analysts noted that Bitcoin continues to trade as a high-beta risk asset, often moving in tandem with equities during periods of positive market sentiment.
Investor confidence was also bolstered by an apparent easing of military tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which had earlier triggered a flight to safe-haven assets. As fears of a broader conflict subsided, capital flowed back into assets like cryptocurrencies and stocks. Market participants continue to monitor inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, which remain a key driver of institutional demand.
Altcoin Performance Remains Mixed
AdWhile most alternative cryptocurrencies, or altcoins, tracked Bitcoin's gains on Friday, their performance over the week was varied.
- Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest crypto, rose 2.7% to $1,795.14, ending the week up 2.1%.
- XRP gained 0.8% but was down 2% for the week.
- Solana (SOL) and Cardano (ADA) posted weekly losses of 5.2% and 6.6%, respectively.
Circle Secures Federal Trust Bank Charter
In a significant regulatory development, Circle Internet Financial, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, received final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to operate a national trust bank. The charter allows Circle to hold its own reserves and provide custody services for institutional clients under direct federal supervision.
"OCC approval to establish Circle National Trust marks a defining step in bringing blockchain technology and digital assets into the core of the U.S. financial system," said CEO Jeremy Allaire. Following the announcement, shares of the company closed 5% higher.
