BIST 100 Rises 0.40% on Sector Strength Despite Broader Market Weakness

Background

Turkey's primary stock index, the Borsa Istanbul 100 (BIST 100), advanced 0.40% to close Monday's session in positive territory. The gains were driven by strength in key sectors, including telecommunications, transportation, and retail, according to data from Investing.com.

Session in Review

Despite the headline index gain, market breadth was decidedly negative, indicating that the rally was not widespread. On the Istanbul Stock Exchange, 515 stocks declined while only 121 advanced, with 10 closing unchanged. This suggests that the positive performance was concentrated in a select group of large-capitalization index components.

Top Movers

The session's top performers on the BIST 100 were:

  • Balsu Gida Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (IS:BALSU), which surged 9.90% to close at 6.88.
  • Tukas Gida Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (IS:TUKAS), rising 9.78% to 2.02.
  • Mavi Giyim Sanayi Ve Ticaret AS (IS:MAVI), which gained 6.92% to end the day at 37.40.

In currency markets, the Turkish lira saw mixed movement. The USD/TRY pair ticked up by 0.09% to 48.80, while the EUR/TRY pair edged down 0.12% to 56.01. The U.S. Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, rose 0.19% to 100.12.
