In a regulatory filing on Tuesday, Circle disclosed the details of the transaction, which took place on September 17. The stablecoin issuer sold approximately 1.24 million shares to Binance at a purchase price of $80.84 per share, totaling the $100 million investment.
Following the announcement, shares of Circle (CRCL) were last seen trading up nearly 2% in premarket activity. The stock has gained roughly 19% year-to-date, bringing its market capitalization to approximately $24 billion.
Expanded Partnership
AdThe investment underpins an expanded commercial arrangement with a five-year term. Under the agreement, Binance has committed to undertaking specific activities to promote USDC on its exchange. In return, Circle stated it has agreed to pay Binance a "monthly incentive fee."
Either party can terminate the arrangement early under certain specified conditions, according to the filing. This partnership solidifies the relationship between the world's largest crypto exchange and the issuer of one of the market's most prominent stablecoins.

USDC is a stablecoin designed to maintain a 1-to-1 peg with the U.S. dollar. It plays a critical role in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, facilitating rapid fund transfers and providing a stable store of value for traders. According to data from CoinMarketCap, USDC has a market capitalization of nearly $75 billion.
