Big Yellow Group Shares Decline on Tepid Revenue Growth

Shares of Big Yellow Group (LSE:BYG) fell as much as 1.7% in Tuesday trading after the UK self-storage operator's first-quarter trading update disappointed investors. The stock touched a low of 863p following the release, which pointed to slowing underlying revenue growth.
Underwhelming Trading Update
For the quarter ending June 30, Big Yellow reported a 3% year-over-year increase in total revenue to £53.2 million. However, a more closely watched metric, like-for-like store revenue, grew by only 2% to £52.2 million, signaling softer demand at its established locations.
This modest growth in the core like-for-like figure failed to provide a positive catalyst for the market. The company's Annual General Meeting, also held Tuesday, concluded without any fresh announcements to offset the cautious reception of the quarterly results, according to an Investing.com report.
AdAnalyst and Technical Pressure
Adding to investor concerns is an existing "Sell" rating on the stock from analysts at Goldman Sachs, who have a price target of 860p. Tuesday's trading brought the share price very close to this bearish target.
The stock's technical posture has also weakened. Shares broke below their 200-day moving average on July 16, reinforcing a downtrend that has seen the stock fall significantly from its 52-week high of 1208p. As a UK-listed real estate investment trust (REIT), Big Yellow remains sensitive to domestic economic conditions and interest rate expectations, which overshadowed any positive sentiment from broader global markets.
