Belgium's BEL 20 Index Climbs 0.43% on Tech and Financial Sector Gains

Belgium's benchmark BEL 20 index finished Friday's session in positive territory, rising 0.43% to close the week on a high note. The advance was primarily driven by gains in the technology, consumer goods, and financial sectors, according to market data.
Top Movers
Leading the gains on the index was semiconductor manufacturer Melexis NV (EBR:MLXS), which saw its shares climb 3.02% to close at €66.45. Other notable performers included:
- UCB SA (EBR:UCB): The biopharmaceutical company added 1.93% to end the day at €205.60.
- D’Ieteren NV (EBR:IETB): The automotive distribution and vehicle glass repair firm rose 1.73% to trade at €170.30.
On the downside, Lotus Bakeries (EBR:LOTB) was the session's worst performer, falling 3.25% to €11,900.00. It was followed by steel producer Aperam SA (AS:APAM), which declined 0.71%, and chemical company Solvay SA (EBR:SOLB), which was down 0.69%.
AdMarket Breadth and Context
Despite the positive close for the headline index, the broader market sentiment on the Brussels Stock Exchange was negative. Declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones by a margin of 57 to 35, with 6 stocks ending the session unchanged. This indicates that gains in heavily weighted index components were responsible for lifting the BEL 20.
In the commodities market, crude oil prices fell, with the October WTI contract dropping 2.81% to $99.60 a barrel. In currency markets, the EUR/USD pair was largely unchanged, trading near 1.16, while the US Dollar Index Futures saw a marginal gain of 0.02%.
