BEL 20 Ends Marginally Lower as Financials, Consumer Stocks Drag

Summary
Belgium's benchmark BEL 20 index closed down 0.09% on Tuesday, weighed down by losses in the financial, consumer goods, and telecom sectors despite more stocks advancing than declining on the broader exchange.
Belgium's benchmark stock index, the BEL 20, finished Tuesday's trading session marginally lower, shedding 0.09% as losses in key sectors offset gains elsewhere in the market. The slight downturn was primarily driven by weakness among consumer goods, financial, and telecommunications companies, according to market data.
Market Details
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 index registered a minor decline. Despite the negative performance of the benchmark index, market breadth was positive, with rising stocks outnumbering decliners on the Brussels Stock Exchange by a margin of 54 to 34, while 20 stocks ended the session unchanged. This suggests the index's dip was driven by losses in some of its larger constituents.
Among the leading components of the index, semiconductor solutions provider Melexis NV (EBR:MLXS) was the top performer, gaining 2.72% to close at €69.85. It was followed by chemicals distributor Azelis Corporate Services NV (EBR:AZE), which added 1.92% to end at €12.20, and specialty materials firm Syensqo SA (EBR:SYENS), up 1.41% to €79.05.
On the downside, insurance group Ageas (EBR:AGES) was the biggest laggard, falling 2.22% to finish at €74.95. Automotive distributor D’Ieteren NV (EBR:IETB) declined 2.06% to €161.90, and biopharmaceutical company Argen-X (EBR:ARGX) dropped 1.45% to close at €855.40.
