Archer Aviation Stock Gains on New Defense Aircraft, Upcoming Customer News

Summary
Shares of Archer Aviation (NYSE:ACHR) rose after the company unveiled a new autonomous defense aircraft developed with Anduril and announced it would reveal its first commercial partners later this week.
Archer Aviation (NYSE:ACHR) shares climbed 5% on Monday following a dual announcement that showcased a new military aircraft and teased the imminent reveal of its first commercial customers.
Defense Partnership with Anduril
At the Farnborough Airshow, Archer and defense technology company Anduril jointly unveiled a new series hybrid-electric VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft platform. The platform is designed for both defense and commercial applications.
Anduril presented the defense variant, named Thunder, a Group 5 autonomous attack rotorcraft. The aircraft features a dual tiltrotor design, enabling it to take off and land vertically without a runway while maintaining efficient, wing-based flight for longer missions. Adam Goldstein, Archer's Founder and CEO, stated the team took a "bold first principles approach" to create what they believe is "the most sophisticated vertical lift aircraft ever made."
AdDevelopment and Commercial Outlook
The companies reported that multiple test flights have already been completed using full-scale surrogate aircraft. The first flight for the Thunder prototype is planned for 2027.
Beyond the defense sector, Archer confirmed it will announce its first commercial partners for the new platform later this week. This development signals a significant step toward commercializing the technology that underpins its air taxi and military programs, providing investors with a clearer view of the company's future revenue streams.
