Apple Inc. (AAPL) is reportedly preparing a comprehensive refresh of its entire Mac computer lineup, with the first new models powered by a next-generation M6 chip expected to launch this fall. The planned overhaul will span all of the company's desktop and laptop computers, according to a Bloomberg News report citing people familiar with the matter.

First Wave of M6 Devices

The initial rollout of new hardware is expected to feature an updated entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and refreshed iMacs. This would mark the first significant update to the iMac all-in-one desktop in two years. These devices will be among the first to incorporate Apple's new M6 in-house silicon, continuing the company's strategy of using its own custom-designed processors.

According to the report, the development phase for the new iMacs and the entry-level MacBook Pro is complete. However, the devices are not expected to begin shipping until the fall season. The new entry-level MacBook Pro will reportedly maintain the same physical design as the current 14-inch model.

Market Context and Sales Momentum

This product cycle update arrives as Apple's Mac division experiences a period of sustained growth, with sales projected to increase for the third consecutive year. The report suggests this momentum is partly driven by the growing popularity of Macs for running computationally intensive artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

Despite the positive sales trend, the company is reportedly navigating supply chain issues. A shortage of memory chips has created manufacturing constraints and has been cited as a factor in recent price increases across the Mac product line.
