Background

A Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft operating for Amazon Prime Air overran a runway during landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday, leading to a complete halt of airport operations. The incident involved a flight operated by carrier 21 Air, which came to rest at the northwest end of the airport.

Incident Details

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that 21 Air Flight 7598 overran the runway at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time on Sunday, September 6. The flight had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

An airport spokesperson confirmed in a statement that a ground stop was in effect and all runways and taxiways at the airport were closed as of 3:00 p.m. local time. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the incident, and video from the scene reportedly showed smoke rising from the aircraft's location near a road outside the airport perimeter.

Operator and Branding Clarified

While the aircraft featured prominent Amazon Prime Air branding, the FAA identified the flight's operator as 21 Air. This reflects a common industry practice where cargo airlines operate flights on behalf of major logistics and e-commerce clients.

According to 21 Air's corporate website, the carrier lists Prime Air, an Amazon company, among its customers. The incident involves key players in the global logistics chain: Boeing as the aircraft manufacturer, 21 Air as the operator, and Amazon as the end-customer for the cargo services.
