AI-Selected Energy Stocks See Triple-Digit Gains Amid Oil Price Surge

A handful of U.S. energy companies identified by an artificial intelligence stock-picking model have delivered substantial returns, capitalizing on rising crude oil prices and a broad market rotation into the sector. The gains reflect heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have tightened supply and pushed investors toward fundamentally undervalued energy producers.
Key Performers
According to a report from Investing.com, its ProPicks AI model flagged several energy stocks that subsequently experienced sharp rallies. The performance highlights how quantitative strategies are being used to identify opportunities during periods of sector-wide momentum.
Key performers since their inclusion in the model's list include:
- Delek US Energy (NYSE:DK): +101.75%
- HF Sinclair (NYSE:DINO): +53.91%
- SM Energy (NYSE:SM): +47.62%
Other notable movers include CVR Energy (NYSE:CVI), which gained 48.5% over the past month, and SM Energy, which also rose 31.5% in the same period.
Fundamental Drivers
AdThe rally in these stocks is underpinned by both macroeconomic trends and strong company-specific performance. SM Energy, for example, was selected by the model in July before it posted a strong second-quarter earnings report that fueled a multi-week rally.
The company reported total revenue of $2.5 billion, a year-over-year increase of 215%, and earnings per share (EPS) of $2.19, easily beating consensus estimates. SM Energy's management also raised its second-half production guidance, supported by record quarterly output and expanding free cash flow, while maintaining its capital expenditure plan. The company further improved its balance sheet by cutting net debt by $1.1 billion.
Valuation and Outlook
Despite the significant run-up, the AI model suggests some of these stocks may still offer further upside. The platform's proprietary fair value models, which synthesize multiple institutional-grade valuation methods, indicate that some of the top-performing energy names continue to trade at a discount to their intrinsic worth.
For instance, the model for SM Energy (NYSE:SM) projects a potential upside of +22.4% from its current price level, even after its recent 47.62% gain. This suggests that the combination of strong earnings growth, attractive valuation metrics, and positive market momentum could continue to support the stock's performance.
